This course covers essential practices such as:

· Ear Examination: Learn to assess the health of the ear with precision.

· Impressions: Master the technique of taking accurate ear impressions.

· Ear Wax Removal: Gain hands-on experience in safe and effective wax removal methods.

· Puretone Audiometry: Understand hearing thresholds and when to refer for further testing.

· Tympanometry: Learn to evaluate middle ear function effectively.

· Basic Hearing Aid Fine Tuning: Acquire skills in setting hearing aids to “first fit” and adjusting to meet client needs.

· Hearing Aid Servicing and Repairs: Develop the ability to troubleshoot and repair hearing devices.

By the end of this course, you will:

· Have a solid understanding of ear anatomy and physiology, recognise common ear conditions, understand the types of hearing loss, and how sound in the environment and within the ear.

· Be able to articulate your scope of practice and identify when a case needs to be referred to an Audiologist or medical specialist.

· Analyse and operate testing equipment proficiently, identifying any contraindications for each audiological procedure.

· Perform clinical procedures safely and effectively, adhering to current best practice guidelines in professional audiology.

· Compare and interpret test results accurately, enhancing your diagnostic capabilities.

· Understand the impact of technique quality and other variables on test outcomes.

· Clearly explain the structure of appointments and the client’s journey through the care process.

· Reflect on the crucial aspects of obtaining consent and maintaining accurate documentation.

Our course is approved by “The CPD Certification Service” a national independent assessor of quality for CPD courses used by the NHS and various Universities

Prerequesites
All delegates must be employed by a HCPC registered Hearing Aid Dispenser and be under full supervision throughout the duration of the course.  Delegates are not signed off on any activity until they have completed the duration of the course and all assessed elements of the course.

Course Tutors

Sarah Riches

Up until June 2022, Sarah taught many auditory science and clinical modules within the Foundation Degree and BSc Healthcare Science programmes, and served as Programme Director for the Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship. With many years of teaching and assessing students of Audiology at this higher education level, Sarah has the talent to recognise the needs and learning styles of each individual under her guidance. She empowers her students to reach beyond their perceived boundaries, by guiding them with patience and empathy every step of the way. She has an open and friendly manner of teaching with a unique way of explaining complicated topics which will help students leave with a new found confidence.

Julia Rogers

Julia has trained and assessed for many years in further education, professional and corporate environments. She has a calm, warm, but thorough teaching style that inspires delegates to want to learn more, explaining information in a way that’s easy to understand and absorb. Overall, as a trainer/assessor she is not just a source of knowledge but also a beacon of kindness and support. Her friendly demeanour, combined with genuine care leaves a lasting impact on our students.
