Hearing Care Assistant (HCA) Course

This intensive course is designed for Audiology HCA’s to develop the core competency knowledge and skills to enable them to confidently support routine services. For brand-new HCA’s, or HCA’s wishing to expand their knowledge and skills.

Description

 

Includes:

  • Ear examination
  • Impressions
  • Ear wax removal
  • Puretone audiometry (& referring for masking)
  • Tympanometry
  • Basic hearing aid fine tuning
  • Hearing aid servicing and repairs

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Discuss ear anatomy & physiology, common ear conditions, types of hearing loss, and how sound behaves
  • Describe own scope of practice and recognise when to refer on
  • Analyse how the testing equipment operates, and identify contraindications for each procedure
  • Safely perform clinical procedures using the recognised technique based on current professional best practice guidance
  • Compare and contrast test results with normal test values
  • Evaluate the impact of poor technique and other influencing factors
  • Explain appointment structure and the client journey
  • Reflect on the areas of consent and documentation
  • Our course is approved by “The CPD Certification Service” a national independent assessor of quality for CPD courses used by the NHS and various Universities.

 

Prerequisites

 

All delegates must be employed by a HCPC registered Hearing Aid Dispenser and be under full supervision throughout the duration of the course.  Delegates are not signed off on any activity until they have completed the duration of the course and all assessed elements of the course.
